A Student’s Guide to Monroe Library

Taylor falgout

A Student’s Guide to Monroe Library is a wayfinding system designed to improve navigation and reduce reliance on the front desk in a resource-rich but confusing environment. Many first-year and transfer students feel intimidated using the library, making it difficult to locate and fully engage with available resources.

The solution introduces a behavior-shifting system with clear maps, landmark hotspots, and student-centered language that guides users from entry to key areas. Through a cohesive and accessible design, it builds confidence, encourages independent navigation, and creates a more intuitive and engaging library experience.

PROFFESIONAL PRACTICE COURSE

Project 1: Great Ideas Poster

Brief: Design a poster for the Design Museum of Chicago’s Great Ideas of Humanity exhibition. Use quotes from famous authors, Loyola professors or New Orleans voices. Your design should visually amplify each message.

My Solution: This poster was selcted to show inthe Great Ideas of Humanity exhibition by the Design Museum of Chicago. I selected a quote from the original series by writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1833:

“There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.”

My concept reflects on childhood when curiosity outran certainty and when thoughts were still flexible, like clay. The work visualizes how ignorance, whether intentional or not, can cause harm, both to oneself and to others.

Project 2: GRRL TV Network Branding

Brief: A motion-driven identity for GRRL (Girls Raunchy, Rebellious Lives), a comedy network built for women tired of searching for shows that reflect their lives.

My Solution: Inspired by riot-grrrl culture, the brand uses bright colors, spiky forms, and playful imagery to celebrate honest female storytelling and create a space for women.

Project 3: Safety Vu Rebrand

Brief: Safety Vu is a Walmart-owned safety eyewear line that lacked a distinct identity and blended in with competitors. The brand needed a stronger voice and visual system that felt authentic to blue-collar workers.

My Solution: Through strategic positioning, bold visual design, and a confident tone of voice, the system emphasizes durability, craftsmanship, and community.
