Science and Adventure: The Educational Adventure
TANESHA TAYLOR
The Pontchartrain Conservancy has observed that when students, particularly 4th graders, visit the lighthouse or attend other events, they often struggle to stay engaged with educational activities, prioritizing entertainment over learning. My design will address the imbalance between entertainment and education. It includes a range of activities — from drawing and writing to outdoor exploration — giving students a hands-on, engaging experience while also ensuring they retain the information. It is crucial to find the right balance between education and entertainment, especially for young students who are still developing their understanding of the world. If educational experiences are not engaging, students may miss out on valuable knowledge that shapes how they see their role in the community and the environment. By creating activities that are both fun and educational, we not only help students retain important information but also spark a lifelong curiosity and sense of responsibility. Empowering children with knowledge in an enjoyable way ensures they grow into informed, active members of their community, ready to protect and improve the world around them.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
In professional practice, the students completed a series of projects, including “Why Design” posters, poetry book mockups, wine label mockups, and “Big Type Show” Advertising posters.
