2025 DESIGN CAPSTONE

Fall 2025: Professional Practice Course & UX Design Practicum

The Professional Practice course serves as a transition, helping students shift from a student mindset to that of a design professional. Students continue to refine their visual problem-solving skills. By the end of this course, the students feel more confident and aware of various aspects of professional design work. The course includes both individual and group critiques alongside discussions on key topics such as client relations, project pricing, working with printers, directing photography, and design competition

The UX Practical Course is intended as a professional practice experience, shifting those enrolled from the mindset of a student to that of a design professional. Students worked on visual problem solving and development of creative skills and applied that knowledge to a semester long project. They worked together throughout the semester as a design team mirroring a structure of a tech company’s UX team to produce research, wireframes, hi-fidelity screens, and interactive prototypes for an app requested by a real client.

Spring 2025: Capstone Show: Design X Change

This year, we restructured our capstone course to focus on addressing real-world challenges for community organizations. We worked with the Pontchartrain Conservancy to develop unique projects that address different problems the conservancy faces. This approach not only offers students a chance to collaborate with clients in a professional context but also aligns with our university’s mission of giving back to the community. These projects are the outcome of a semester-long journey driven by research and dedication to creating purposeful, impactful designs that are tailored to specific audiences and aimed at fostering positive change through design.
